Trickle-Up Economics

i.e. The Freedom Dividend

The wealth gap in this country has vastly increased over the last half-century. Trickle-Down Economics, the rise of enormous Tech Giants such as Amazon, has crippled any chance of competition in our markets, creating the largest wealth gap the country has ever seen.

We are also in the middle of a global pandemic which has helped the wealthiest people in the world become even richer, while those struggling to get by are now barely holding on.

This pandemic has made many things very clear, the necessity for a healthcare system that isn’t tied to your employer, and the necessity of a Universal Basic Income (UBI) during such a crisis.

Millions of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck while working multiple jobs. UBI would put money in the pockets of millions of Americans which would allow them to not be scared to get sick, or not be forced to head back to work, risking their lives because they need to pay rent.

What we are proposing is simple:

  • $2,000/month to Americans during this pandemic

  • $1,000/month after the pandemic has ended

Every year we are taxed for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and many other things. The federal government just gave trillions of dollars in tax cuts to large corporations and the wealthiest people in the United States, which is paid for through our tax dollars. We must instead provide true monetary and economic relief to all Americans, not just the wealthiest among us.

Former Presidential candidate Andrew Yang proposed the implementation of the “Freedom Dividend,” which allows people to opt into either their current social programs (ie.Food Stamps) or accept UBI.

UBI will be known as Trickle-Up Economics. It’s simple. Putting money in the pockets of Americans would grow the economy more than ever before. Mr. Yang said “[UBI] is capitalism where you don’t start from $0.”

Not only will this protect American workers, but this will also help finally close the wealth gap that has been increasing exponentially for decades.
